Detectabuse Control Solution — NZ’s most widely used control solution.
Controls help test the integrity and quality of urine drug testing cups. Simply run a test as per the AS/NZS 4308:2008 Standard. Within 5 – 10 minutes you can check in order to be sure everything is working okay with your drug cups.
This comes as a set of controls:
- 1 x 5mL bottle of -50% solution
- 1 x 5mL bottle of +50% solution
The AS/NZS 4308:2008 standard states under A3.2 (e) Each day, immediately prior to the testing of the specimens at the collecting site and for each new lot number, a minimum of one above cut-off and one below cut-off quality control for each drug class on the device used shall be run.
To carry out a test you need 1mL syringes, a set of controls and a urine drug cup. Syringe the control solution into the urine drug cup and then allow the test strips to run.
If you do a negative controls test you should receive two lines, a control line and a test line. If you do a positive controls test, you should receive one line, just the control line.
Controls are produced to check the quality of any urine drug testing cup, before proceeding with an actual urine drug test. This includes:
Controls storage requirements
Having issues with controls tests? Think about the storage conditions of the controls you are using.
Most testers around the country are storing controls solution in the fridge, without knowing the controls will become unstable after a month!
Sober Check recommends storing controls in a freezer, and bringing them to room temperature when used.
Unopened Detectabuse controls:
- Stable until the expiration date when stored in the freezer (-10ºC to -20ºC) or the fridge (2ºC to 8ºC).
Opened Detectabuse controls:
- Stable for 6 months when stored in the freezer (-10ºC to -20ºC). Can be thawed/frozen up to 5 times.
- Stable for 31 days when stored in the fridge (2ºC to 8ºC).
